Deciding on SaaS vs. On-Premises Solution

SaaS solutions get a lot of hype, and in some cases on-premise BI gets the short end of the stick because they are perceived as being difficult and time consuming to implement and maintain.
On October 8, Lyndsay Wise will provide a short overview on the differences between each, and then discuss what factors will make a person look for one over the other.

I vote for - What are the real costs of “free”? (basically what hidden costs exists with free solutions offered, open source, etc.)
Unfortunatly, I won't be there. Anyway, I vote for Deciding on saas vs on premise solutions (first) & implementing your firt BI solution (second). Will you provide a record? thank you

I vote for #2 (SaaS vs. On-prem) followed by #4 (real costs of free), followed by #1 (limited IT resources). I think #2 and #1 are strongly correlated.
In my conversations with prospects I see a strong interest in learning about #2 especially in light of the recent announcements from Cognos around the lite versions and on-demand delivery.
My vote would be "Gaining visibility into your customers using dashboards (picking the right metrics)".
We are currently looking for ideas on building Cognos solutions for an industry vertical.

Great topic - SaaS is the hottest technology on the BeyeNETWORK based on a recent reader poll. Looking forward to hearing what Lyndsay has to say. See you all on the 8th.
Quality topic as I’m sure this is the debate most mid-market companies get caught up in as they look for an enterprise wide solution to fit their BI needs. SaaS has sure taken the market my storm, but is it a better solution in the long run??
